WHO IS A MENTOR?
CREAR Futuros Peer-Mentors are independent contractors that support the needs of students mentees regarding social services, campus resources, leadership development, and/or other available support. CREAR Futuros peer-mentors play a critical role helping mentees achieve a successful and fulfilling year in their college career through individualized 1:1 meetings and group meetings with fellow mentees. Each mentor will be responsible for a cohort of up to 12 to 15 mentees. Curriculum for Group meetings is provided.
MENTOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Each mentor is required to meet in-person or with each mentee for 30 minutes two (2) times a month. These individual meetings are opportunities to discuss mentee progress in all areas of their lives. Mentor should have clear understanding of the mentees’ academic, social, and personal lives.

A mentor is not expected to be a “problem solver” for the mentee but rather an adviser. It is important that the mentor, with support of the liaison, is familiar with campus resources to direct, refer, and guide mentees to relevant professional resources.

Each mentor is required to conduct monthly group meetings with their respective mentee cohort. Group meetings serve to create group identity within mentees in the cohort.

Attend Hispanic Federation training in August preceding the academic year.

Participate in Mentor Monthly Meetings.

Check-in with liaison to share highlights and concerns about mentees and cohort experience.

Submit Monthly Mentor Reports and Surveys.

Dedicate 20 hours per week to mentoring. This includes meeting with mentees, outreach, tracking progress, reporting your work ,and attending meetings.

Participate in a minimum of three CREAR Futuros events/ workshops hosted & led by Hispanic Federation within an academic year such as Leader’s Day, Advocacy Day and others.
